| In a cynical world,where uncluttered emotions
are treated with dull suspicion it is refreshing to come upon someone
responding to his surroundings with an almost innocent passion. So wrote
George Malaise (Art critic/journalist) of Franco Scibetta in his first
of many exhibitions shedding light on landscapes.
Franco Scibetta comes from an artistic background and has studied Art and photography spanning the past forty years. Born in Staffordshire,in the heart of England, Franco has traveled throughout the British Isles and Europe casting his eye on the world around him.His photographs are a unique portrait of landscape shot on Infra Red film, which give an almost surreal image as if taken from another world. Unlike the digital format of today, the images on show are real enough. Scotland, Cumbria, The Yorkshire Dales are turned into apocalyptic visions with flaming fire and coral shrubs set against acid skies. Colours and images are not quite in reverse; they look as if they are been viewed through those coloured cardboard specs we used to wear to watch 3D films. Familiar sights like Eilean Donan Castle in Scotland and Loch Leven become unfathomable views of impossibly solid reflections and disturbing shadows. Franco Scibetta`s quest for his spectacular images has taken him on a journey of self-discovery. Capturing those fleeting moments of light,he brings to his work a strong personal vision, combined with supreme technical mastery of his chosen medium. Infra photography is both unpredictable and exiting. One never knows exactly what to expect. It is hoped that these images are a reminder that the world of landscape photography, may be viewed through a different perspective. Blue skies turn to green, trees turn to coral red, apocalypse now? You decide. |
